After transmitting your Form 2290 to the IRS, you will receive your stamped Schedule 1 in minutes irrespective of whether you have paid your HVUT amount. But you might be required to initiate the IRS 2290 payment by yourself depending on the payment method you choose.
Here’s what you have to do for each payment method.
Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW)
If you choose Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) as your payment method, you will be required to provide information about your bank account. You do not have to worry about starting the payment, as the tax amount will be deducted directly from your bank account within 1 or 2 days.
Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
If you choose the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) as your payment method, you must initiate the transfer yourself. You can do that by visiting www.EFTPS.gov. You must have an EFTPS account if you want to make your payment with EFTPS as your payment option. You can create a free EFTPS account by visiting EFTPS.gov. You must pay your tax dues within your filing deadline.
Check or Money Order
If you choose Check or Money order as your payment method, you must send your HVUT amount to the U.S Department of Treasury before the filing deadline. You will be required to send your Form 2290 to the U.S. Department of treasury along with your 2290-V payment voucher.
We will email your 2290-V after you transmit your return to the IRS if you choose Check or Money Order as your payment option.
You can postal mail your check or money order to the following address:
Internal Revenue Service,
