How many days will it take for the IRS to debit my payment through EFW?

Once your Form 2290 return has been processed and the IRS has accepted the return, the United States Treasury will directly debit the HVUT amount from your bank account within 24 to 48 hours (1 or 2 days).

If the payment hasn’t been processed after a couple of days, we recommend you contact the IRS and enquire about it. If there there are issues with the EFW payment, you can pay your HVUT by visiting www.EFTPS.gov and initiating the payment or send in a Check or Money Order to the IRS.

Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) is an e-pay option offered to taxpayers only while paying your federal taxes using an e-file provider or a tax professional. This option enables the IRS to debit the required tax amount directly from your bank account.
