Instantly file your heavy vehicle use tax form 2290 for the 2024-2025 tax year

The “check if applicable” boxes in Form 2290 must be checked only if you are making any changes to your return or if it is your final return. Let’s take a look at what each box means.

Address Change

This box must be checked if your business address has changed from the address that was reported while filing Form 2290 in the previous tax year.

Final Return

You are required to check this box if you’re going out of business, and this is the last Form 2290 return you are filing.

VIN Correction

If you entered the wrong Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) while filing your Form 2290 return, you must file the VIN correction amendment to correct the wrong VIN. VIN corrections are free for Form 2290 returns filed with ExpressTruckTax. Click here to know how to file a Form 2290 VIN correction with ExpressTruckTax.

Amendments

There are two cases where you might need to check this box.

  1. If the taxable gross weight of your vehicle increases within the tax year, you must report the increased weight to the IRS and pay the required HVUT. Click here to know how to file the taxable gross weight increase amendment with ExpressTruckTax.
  2. If you report your vehicle as a suspended vehicle while filing your Form 2290 and the vehicle exceeds the mileage limit, you must report this information to the IRS and pay the required taxes. Click here to know how to file the taxable gross weight increase amendment with ExpressTruckTax.
