Hey, it’s Amber with ExpressTruckTax, and today I’m going to answer a common question that we get here. Can I transfer my Form 2290 tax from one truck to the next truck? The answer is sometimes. Um, most of the time, yes, you can, uh, if you file the 2290 on Truck A in July and you get a new truck in September, you can file the tax from Truck A to Truck B, um, and it just kind of moves over depending on how you sell and purchase the vehicles.
The only time that there’s a question is if you’ve gone over 5,000 miles, and there are, you know, there are a lot of different stipulations. But for the most part, you can transfer your tax from Truck A to Truck B. There are three different reasons.
Number one, you get a new truck, so you sold a truck, you got a new truck, you move that tax over. If you destroy Truck A, you get a new truck, you can move that tax over. Um, if Truck A is stolen and you’ve paid the tax on that truck, you can move it to Truck B. So there are three different key reasons of why you would transfer the tax to a new truck.
But make sure you check with your accountant, your tax advisor, just to make sure before you’re doing this transaction. But the IRS does say that you can transfer your tax from Truck A to Truck B if it’s sold, destroyed, or stolen.
And of course, you can do that on ExpressTruckTax. Um, and then there’s also the option where let’s say you sell your truck and it’s the middle of the tax year, and you’re not getting a new truck, you can claim a credit on that sold vehicle. So again, if it’s not gone over 5,000 miles and you paid for the full tax year, you can file an 8849 for a sold vehicle.
And, um, the IRS will mail you a refund check for that unused tax. The same with stolen or destroyed vehicles, you can claim credits on those. Or if you’re getting a new truck, you can transfer that over to the new vehicle.

Hey, it’s Amber with ExpressTruckTax, and we get the question a lot: What is the due date for the Form 2290? And sometimes, that’s a trick question because there can be multiple due dates depending on if you’re putting new trucks on the road. But when you’re talking about the annual Form 2290, the due date to file and pay is August 31st.
We offer what we call pre-filing here at ExpressTruckTax, and that gives you a couple extra months to go ahead and file the 2290. We keep it on hold and transmit it to the IRS as soon as they begin accepting returns on July 1st. And then, you have until August 31st to make that payment.
So, there are a couple of different payment options. If you choose to pay with a credit card through ExpressTruckTax, that’s going to come out right there in the first week of July. If you choose check or money order, you have until the end of July to pay.
There’s EFTPS, there’s credit card through the IRS, and there is electronic funds withdrawal. So, there are five different payment types that you can choose. But that just depends on when you’re making the payment.
So go ahead and file your Form 2290 for the 2023-2024 tax year starting now at ExpressTruckTax.com. Go ahead and get the paperwork side of it out of the way so that you’re not wondering, “Oh gosh, it’s not hanging over your head, wondering when do I have to do it?” All summer long, you can go on with your business and drive without wondering when it’s due. And then, you can make that payment later.

As a truck owner or fleet manager, tax filing the IRS Form 2290 can be a daunting task, consuming valuable time and resources. However, with the help of the TruckZone feature in ExpressTruckTax, managing your trucks has never been easier.
ExpressTruckTax offers a range of features to simplify the filing process, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and peace of mind. In this blog post, we will explore one of the standout features of ExpressTruckTax (the TruckZone) and how it can simplify your filing experience.
What is the TruckZone?
The TruckZone is an ExpressTruckTax exclusive feature. Think of it as a digital garage. Whether you have one truck or thousands of trucks, the TruckZone helps you organize your fleet so that e-filing your Form 2290 each year is simple! The information you enter for each truck is saved and can be auto-populated on future returns.
How Does the TruckZone Work?
The TruckZone feature in ExpressTruckTax simplifies the tax filing process and organization in just a few steps.
There are 2 ways to import vehicle information into TruckZone.
Manual Upload: Click the +Add Vehicle button and manually enter the vehicle’s information such as the VIN, Gross Weight, and other important information for the Form 2290 filing. You can also go the extra mile and enter IFTA and state-specific information as well.
Bulk Upload: You can upload an Excel or CSV file directly into the TruckZone, saving you time and hassle. Once the vehicles are uploaded, you select any of these vehicles to add to your Form 2290, and you can always edit the details anytime.
You can add vehicles from the TruckZone directly to your Form 2290 by choosing ‘Import Vehicle from TruckZone’ when filing a single truck or ‘Import from TruckZone’ on the Taxable Vehicle page when filing for multiple vehicles.

The Benefits of TruckZone
The most notable feature of the TruckZone is the ability to search for a Schedule 1 for a specific vehicle without having to sift through hundreds of returns. Just search for the vehicle, and then click the HVUT tab to view all tax details related to that truck. In addition to this feature are several other benefits, such as saving information for multiple vehicles at once, avoiding duplicate entries, and easily maintaining and organizing hundreds of vehicles in one space.
In closing, The TruckZone feature in ExpressTruckTax revolutionizes how truck owners and fleet managers organize their fleets and manage their tax filings. Hey, it’s ExpressAmber, and today we’re going to talk about important paperwork that you should have in your truck.
All right, so it’s no secret that I have said over all of these years how complicated it is to be a truck driver. Sometimes people think, “Oh, like, oh, they’re just driving a truck,” and there’s so much more to driving a truck than just driving the truck. You go to school for weeks and months to just learn how to drive the truck.
A lot of times what I have found, though, is that the schools don’t teach you the paperwork side of things. They don’t teach you how to manage your business from a working aspect number one, but then number two, all of the taxes and the registrations and the renewals and updates that you have to keep up with. A lot of times that’s not taught in trucking school.
So, I know that there’s dispatching schools and all sorts of other types of schools to teach you how to do those specific things, but again, what kind of paperwork do you need in your truck? Are you required to have in your truck? And so, I have a list of documents that you could be required.
Again, a lot of it depends on the state, the DOT officer that pulls you over, all of that good stuff, but I have a list of documents that you could be required to have in your truck. This might be helpful for you to just get this all together and that way when you are pulled over for a DOT inspection or pulled over, you have it together all in one place that you’re able to just hand over and you have all of this right there in your truck.
So, number one, your truck and your trailer registration, also the DOT inspection for your truck and the trailer. It’s also important to have your rental or your lease agreement for the trailer if applicable. Again, this is something that if you have your own trailer and you have the lease agreement for that trailer, you want to have that with you.
Your proof of insurance, having a copy of that is super, super important. Your IFTA license, your IRP registration, a lot of times those things go together. When you’re getting IRP, you also have to get IFTA. And so, a lot of times people just keep that together, but your IFTA license again, and that renews every year, and so you want to make sure that you have your updated IFTA license with you. The same thing with your IRP, your registration card, make sure that you have the current one in your truck with you.
A copy of your UCR registration, now again, this isn’t necessarily required, but it’s always better to have more information than not enough information. So, your UCR, again that renews every year, and so make sure you have the current UCR registration with you. If the DOT inspector officer asks for it, you have it. A copy of your other state fuel permit, so again, if you’re traveling in Kentucky, New York, Oregon, you know how you have your KYU or your Oregon State permit, those things make sure you have a copy with you.
And that way, again, if you are pulled over and you are asked for those things, you have those other state permits with you. Your liability insurance, your medical examiner certificate, and then your ELD manual and also a malfunction guide. Those manuals that go with your ELD again, make sure they’re in the same place where all of this other paperwork is to show that you have those readily available if you need them. And then also just general information, your MC number, your DOT number.
Again, if you have those state permits, what are your numbers there in those states? All of this is good to have together because, again, when you are pulled over, that is not the time to freak out about, ‘Oh my goodness, do I have all of my paperwork together?’
Have it together in a folder along with all of these other required documents, such as the Form 2290. Again, that is an annual tax that’s due to the IRS. Typically, July-August are the deadline periods for that. And when you have your 2290, you get a stamped Schedule 1, and that’s basically the receipt of filing.
So, you’ll need that to update your IRP to renew your registration plates. All of these forms kind of intermingle with each other at some point, so you should have a copy of your Form 2290, your stamped Schedule 1 with you as well to show that you’re up to date, again, and it just will back up those other documents.
So, these are some of the required documents that you should have together in your truck at all times. If you have further questions or you have another topic that you would like me to discuss, comment down below, and I’ll be happy to do that.
And always subscribe to my channel so you get notifications when I have a new video. Thanks so much, and I look forward to helping you. Bye.
When it comes to tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers various payment options such as EFW, EFTPS, Check or Money Order and an option that has recently gained popularity is paying taxes by credit card. A major benefit of filing your IRS 2290 form with ExpressTruckTax is that you can pay the HVUT with a credit card directly on our site.
This is a really convenient option for making your HVUT payment. Plus there are other great benefits to choosing to pay by credit or debit card.
In this blog, we will explore the benefits of paying IRS taxes with a credit card through ExpressTruckTax and why it could be a smart choice for you this year!
Here’s how to pay your IRS tax due with a credit card through ExpressTruckTax:
Enter your business details and truck details or if you are a returning client, click the orange button that says, Pre-file 2023
When you get to the IRS tax payment section, choose Credit or Debit Card. It will be the first option. You must also check the button that says you understand and agree to the Terms and Conditions to proceed.
Benefits of paying your HVUT tax with a credit or debit card:
Streamlined Payment Process: You only need to enter your credit card information once when paying your IRS taxes through ExpressTruckTax. This eliminates the need to reenter your Form 2290 and payment information on a third-party website.
Convenience: Using a credit card to pay your IRS taxes provides convenience and flexibility. By paying the HVUT through ExpressTruckTax, drivers can easily make their payments online, anytime and anywhere.
Rewards and Benefits: Many credit card companies offer rewards programs, cashback incentives, or travel miles for each dollar spent. By using a credit card to pay your IRS taxes, you can take advantage of these rewards. However, it’s important to assess the terms and conditions of your credit card’s rewards program to ensure that the benefits outweigh any associated fees or interest charges.
Streamlined Record Keeping: Paying your IRS taxes with a credit card through ExpressTruckTax can simplify your record-keeping process. By using a credit card statement as proof of payment, you have a consolidated record of your tax transaction, making it easier to track and document your tax-related expenses. This can be especially beneficial for bookkeeping and maintaining documentation for tax purposes or financial audits.
Paying your IRS taxes with a credit card through ExpressTruckTax has several advantages, including a streamlined payment process, convenience, and streamlined record keeping.
Additionally, you may be able to leverage credit card rewards programs and earn valuable perks while fulfilling your tax obligations. As with any financial decision, it is advisable to consult with a tax professional or financial advisor to determine the best payment method for your specific circumstances.
Hey, it’s Amber from ExpressTruckTax, and today we are going to talk about EIN, which is the Employer Identification Number.
So, we’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about how long does it take a new EIN to become active in the IRS system, and that is a super, super good question because sometimes it can take two weeks, sometimes it can take four weeks.
It really just depends on how quickly the IRS is batching those applications and entering them into their system. So, when you apply for a new EIN, you enter in the information on the IRS website, and you automatically get the EIN, right? You get a PDF, and it shows you your new EIN. Your SS4 is the actual documentation, and for several things, you can use that number right away.
So, for example, if you’re going to go open a bank account for your business, you can use that new EIN right away. However, in order to e-file, you have to wait until the IRS puts that number into their system because when you e-file a tax form, the form that you fill out on ExpressTruckTax gets sent to the IRS, and they have to have something to match that up to you, and they use the EIN for that.
So, if they haven’t put it into their system yet, your return basically gets rejected because there’s nothing to match it in the IRS system. When you’re filing your 2290 on ExpressTruckTax.com, you can go ahead and file the return. It’s going to be rejected, and the reason it’s rejected is it says your business name and the EIN don’t match. That is the IRS code to say the EIN is not in the system yet.
So, what we encourage you to do is to re-transmit that return. You don’t have to pay again for it. You just come back into your account and re-transmit it to the IRS once a day. And if it’s rejected one time, it’s going to be rejected all day that day because the IRS doesn’t update their system but one time a day.
So, when you re-transmit your return, it’ll be rejected until the number is in their system. However, once the number is in their system, your return will be either accepted or rejected again. If there’s something else wrong with it, it might be rejected again. You might have to fix something else on it, but if everything matches, your return will be accepted, and you’ll receive your stamped schedule one in the future. Once your EIN is active, your 2290s will go through the system and will be accepted within minutes.
So, this waiting period is only once, only for new EINs, or if you go and you change the information on your EIN again. You’ve got to kind of go through that waiting period again, but once it’s in the IRS system, and you transmit your 2290, you get your answer back within minutes, which is again why we suggest for you to use ExpressTruckTax because we have been in the industry for over 13 years, and we work directly with the IRS.
We’re US-based, and so your information is secure with ExpressTruckTax, and we get your stamp schedule one accepted quickly. And then again, if you are leased to a company, I know a lot of times we hear questions about, “Oh, I’m going to orientation, and they want me to bring my 2290,” yet you don’t even have an EIN yet.
So, that kind of throws a wrench into your schedule when you have to get an EIN, and then you have to wait 10-15 business days (two weeks-four weeks, just depends) to get your 2290 to take with you to orientation.
So, if you are new to trucking and you’re watching this video, first of all, welcome to a wonderful industry. I love the trucking industry. Number two, go get your EIN now. I don’t care if you’re leasing onto a company, I don’t care if you’re going to be a company driver. It’s free to get. And then if you ever change your mind and you want to go lease onto a company or you want to go out on your own, you already have it. You don’t have to wait for it to be put into the IRS system when you’re wasting valuable time.
So, if you’re new to the industry, go get your EIN. We have videos about that. You can also look on the IRS website of how to set up an EIN, but you want to make sure you’re setting it up correctly because you don’t want to have to go back and change it later. But go get an EIN now so that if you do change how you want to do business, you don’t have to wait on this piece of paperwork.
Basically, again, go file your Form 2290 with ExpressTruckTax. We are the number one IRS-authorized e-file provider for the trucking industry for over 13 years, and if you do have any further questions, we have a full support team Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can email us at support@ExpressTruckTax.com or give us a call at 704-234-6005.

#2 Avoid The Rush
Number two is that you don’t have to worry about the 2290 deadline. You know, as you’re driving, wonderful summertime breeze flowing through your locks of hair, you don’t have to worry about, ‘Oh, the 2290 deadline is coming up.’ You’ve already done it in the first week of July.
It’s going to be processed, and you’re going to get your stamped Schedule 1. If you’re leased with the company, your company can automatically get a stamped Schedule 1 as well. So you don’t have to worry about sending it to them. It’s done, it’s over with.
#3 Fix Any Mistakes
And number three, if you do have any mistakes, you have longer to correct those mistakes. And so again, when your return is processed in the first week of July, if it’s rejected due to a number of different reasons, you have almost two months to correct that.
