IRS E-Filing System Opens January 12th

Every year the IRS shuts down its e-filing system for maintenance. This typically happens on or near December 24th and does not usually reopen until sometime in mid-January. Any Form 2290 filed after December 24th, 2022 is still on hold. There’s no need to worry, however. The IRS e-filing system is expected to open back up on *January 12th. The IRS is Currently Closed

The IRS is closed for annual maintenance from now until mid-January.

The IRS noted that taxpayers should continue to file their returns and pay any taxes due as usual.

    Only Hours Left To File Form 2290

    Today is the deadline to file your Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax.  The IRS will be shutting down at 1PM EST for their scheduled maintenance and will not be back up until noon on September 4, 2012.  Due to the scheduled maintenance, the IRS has extended the E-File deadline to September 7, 2012.

    If you miss the 1PM cutoff today, still go to ExpressTruckTax.com and file your return.  You will still want to click on the ‘Transmit Return to IRS’ button, but the IRS will not actually process your return until they resume operations on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.  If it is after 1PM, you can expect to receive your Stamped Schedule 1 back on Tuesday September 4, 2012.

    If you are paper filing the return still must be postmarked by today, August 31, 2012 to avoid IRS penalties and interest.
